Dominic Hofstede

Dominic Hofstede is the executive creative director of design business MAUD (Melbourne), leading a multidisciplinary team on visual identity projects for some of Australia’s most iconic brands, including Australia Post and Holden.

His wide-ranging graphic design career began in 1988 with an arts degree (with distinction) in graphic communication from Monash. He worked with leading multidisciplinary studio Nexus Designs before establishing his own practice in the mid-1990s. Hofstede Design (1996-2015) was renowned for its commitment to typographic craft, working with a diverse range of clients, including the Australian Ballet, the Australian Youth Orchestra, Monash University and the National Gallery of Victoria.

In 2009, he established recollection.com.au, an online archive of Australian graphic design from 1960 to 1990. In 2014, he was appointed an adjunct senior research fellow at Monash Art, Design and Architecture, and in 2015 was awarded a creative fellowship at the State Library of Victoria.

He’s sat on the Australian Graphic Design (AGDA) Victoria council, and has been a member of the AGDA Hall of Fame committee since 2016. In 2018, he was invited to join the Cannes Design Lions jury.
